Stretch marks are scientifically called striae, or stria as a singular, by the skin experts. These are scarring of the skin and features color that is prominent and different from the true color of the skin.
The main cause of striae is the shredding of the dermis. They can be reduced over time; however, it will not totally disappear. In simple words, one can incur striae through the quick growth of a person that is frequent in puberty. Through them, skin can be stretch over its elasticity limit causing the appearance of the off-color striae.
